Ordered 2x drives and both were factory sealed. The dates on the drives were Jan 2024 and Sept 2023. Performed a full surface scan for both drives and no issues. The drives were well-protected and packaged in special packaging. Silent drives with acceptable temperatures. SMART stats were on 0 for power cycles and hours of usage.

Just received this, shows a manufacture date of Jan 2024, and CrystalDiskInfo returns a value of 0 power on hours! Might be the luck of the draw, but what a great bargain.

Both drives were brand new (0 sectors read or written according to S.M.A.R.T), and less than 6 months old (given the manufacture date).
The drives are not covered by Seagate’s warranty: filling the serial number in Seagate’s web-site learns that the seller needs to be contacted for any warranty (which explains the large price discount).
Hint: If bought in Germany, Amazon offers 3 years of warranty for a very reasonable price. I however bought the drives from another country, so did not had that option.

The two drives were free of errors after reading and writing the disks once (the full 16TB).
    Average read speeds 214MB/sec (disk1) and 191MB/sec (disk2).
    Average write speeds 214MB/sec (disk1) and 187MB/sec (disk2).
    So decent modern speeds.
The disks do spin at 7200 RPM, and hence make a bit more noise (and consume a bit more power) than slower 5400 RPM drives.

S.M.A.R.T. allows automatic spin-down after a certain amount of inactivity … but does not support the options for more silent operation (which is a reasonable choice for an enterprise NAS drive).

No information yet on longevity … but from what I could devise at this moment, these drives seem to be a very good option for a NAS (which is my use case).

    Speriamo duri
